Back to School Checklist

It’s that dreaded time of year for some…SCHOOL IS COMING BACK! Unfair I know…

So I’m here to make the process a little less stressful by giving you the complete list of everything you need to survive another year. Of course don’t feel like every single item on this list is essential. Take from it what you think you’ll need, and I’m sure you will be in for a great start back this year. Without further ado…here we go!

  1. Clothes/Uniform

If your school requires you to wear a uniform, make sure you have read over exactly what you need and have bought everything well in advance of starting back. You don’t want to end up in a last-minute flap because the only jumpers they have left are 3 sizes too big! Make sure you also have spares of some of the clothes to account for laundry days, rips and things going missing! Also, do not fall into the trap of assuming last year’s uniform will fit fine! Make sure you TRY IT ON!!

If you’re a lucky person who doesn’t have to wear a uniform to school, I would recommend having at least your ‘first-day’ outfit planned out to make getting ready on that very first day back a much smoother process.

  2. Bag

Whether this is a sturdy backpack or a trendy shoulder bag, it is an absolute essential to carry all of your things to and from school. I know some people prefer to switch up their bags depending on their mood and outfit, and you may be one of those! Whilst I understand this, I would strongly recommend making this easier for yourself and having one reliable bag to use for school. Having to transfer stuff between bags all the time just makes it 10 times more likely for something to get lost! If you do decide on one bag, make it one you love! You’ll be carrying it for the next year!

  3. Lunch Bag

If you prefer to take a packed lunch to school rather than have one of those delicious canteen meals (NOT!), then having something to store your food in is a must have. Now there are two options to choose from here: a lunch box that you can carry around in your backpack; or a separate bag that you can store in your locker to save you from having to carry it all day. Either way works fine, just personal preference!

Just make sure you have some sort of container big enough to fit your lunch in! You can buy super cheap lunch boxes at tonnes of different places with lots of gorgeous designs to choose from. To be extra organised, get one with compartments! Genius!

  4. Water Bottle

I cannot stress enough the importance of staying hydrated whilst you’re at school. After all, your brain needs water to function! Having your own bottle rather than relying on drinking fountains makes it easier to hydrate since reaching for a bottle in your bag is way more convenient than having to queue up!

I would recommend a large, litre-sized bottle. ESPECIALLY if you do sports in school. You will need that water! If there are facilities that allow you to refill your bottle, you can get away with a smaller size, however, don’t forget to refill and drink some more once it empties!

  5. Folders

Folders are a key part of keeping your school work organised. They allow you to keep all of your work in one place for each subject so you can easily find your notes when you need to reference or revise from them. A ring binder for each subject should work perfectly. Depending on how much written-work you do in your subjects, you also have the choice of a large lever-arch file or a smaller binder. If you are unsure, always go bigger! Better to be prepared!

If you want to take this organisation a step further, get yourself some dividers! Then not only can you organise your notes by class; but also by topic! Which makes finding something sooo much easier…trust me!

I would also invest in an A4 popper wallet to store any notes or handouts until you get the chance to file them away. No more forgotten sheets of paper crumpled in the bottom of your bag!

  6. Stationery

Of course, the absolute essential to take to school: STATIONERY! Now, what stationery you require will obviously depend on the subjects you’re studying, but here is a list of at least the basics!

    • Pens (try to have at least 2 different colours so you have one for corrections!)
    • Pencils
    • Pencil sharpener
    • Eraser
    • Highlighters
    • Glue stick
    • Scissors
    • Colouring pencils
    • Calculator
    • Maths set
    • Notebook with lined paper
    • And of course, a lovely pencil case to store all of these things in!

So there you have it! Everything you need to be as prepared as possible for the new school year! I hope you found this helpful, and feel free to comment or contact me with any questions!
